How effective are you?
A few days ago I posted on my instagram stories..
“Reading is unlearning.”
“Traveling is unlearning.”
It’s true..
and when you read, you also travel..
often to places you’ve never been.
And once you arrive, you see things you’ve never seen.
My father has never been fond of giving to charities.
He believes the money is never sufficiently used for the people they claim it’s for.
“You give to these charities, and the CEO is making $3million a year.”
Dad has a point.
But there is another side to his point that I had never considered.
Not until a few days ago.
Reading and unlearning.
Traveling and unlearning.
Here’s a place I’ve never been.
Here’s something I’ve never seen.
I don’t think my dad has either.
Suppose there is a CEO of a major charity.
This charity helps children who are vitamin A deficient get their eyesight back.
The CEO decides to forgo her salary, allowing the charity to donate more of the proceeds to restoring the eyesight of young children.
In each year this CEO has led the charity, the charity has always raised at least $1million a year.
The equivalent of 1,000 children being able to see again.
Now suppose the board decides its time for a change, they want to bring in a new CEO, but the new CEO is the kind of CEO my dad has never been a fan of.
This CEO is asking for a salary of $3million a year.
The board hires her anyway..
and guess what happened in the first year of her leadership..
the charity raised $20million dollars.
The equivalent of 20,000 children being able to see again.
And now you see something you’ve never seen before.
